Staying Positive

“Like water off a duck’s back”

This saying always makes me laugh, because no matter how easily the water rolls off the duck’s back, the duck is still sitting in a lot more water!

But even this part of the equation is so true, and so important.  We are all sitting in the middle of a negative world, in which people are drowning in their own troubles, and trying (sometimes unconsciously) to bring us down too. When they try to splash this up on our backs, we have to let it roll off.

It’s sometimes easy for me to get distracted by the one negative email or phone call that I receive, when I really need to focus on the great meeting I had that morning, or the encouraging email I got that afternoon.  I need to let the negative responses roll off me, like water off a duck’s back.  God does not want us to be discouraged or drowned by negativity–His joy must be our strength!  So may the joy of the Lord be your strength today, and tomorrow, and the next day…  and let the world’s negativity roll off of you, like water off a duck’s back.
