More news, and something for the culture gurus out there

Airports in Bangkok are still closed.  The Prime Minister is still in Chiang Mai.  Due to safety issues, protest leaders have decided to only hold daytime protests at the Government House in Bangkok, rather than stay all night as well.  There have been a few grenades thrown into the protesting crowd at the Government House.  Police are preparing for… something.

The King’s birthday is this Friday, December 5th.  He will turn 81 years old.  On the evening of December 4th, he will give an address to the country, and everyone waits with baited breath to see how he will approach the problem at hand.

A long-time missionary to Thailand pointed my attention to an article in the Bangkok Post that shows how Thai culture is playing a role in the protests and the way things are handled politically.  I think it is a very interesting article, so if you are interested in Thai culture, and perhaps want a deeper explanation about why the Thais are handling the protests the way they are, then check it out — online http://www.bangkokpost.com/291108_News/29Nov2008_news19.php  OR you can download a pdf version.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers for Thailand.
