Discipline
Blogging is something that consistently remains on my list of things to do. However, when my list of things to do includes two written pages in my calendar, eight twenty-lined “stickies” on my desktop, and another multiple-paragraph “note” on my iPod, blogging somehow loses the URGENT label and I don’t get around to it.
To my readers, I’m sorry. But thanks for understanding.
A lot of friends who blog have a “10 on Tuesday” or “Word for Wednesday” or “Friday Photo” entry… I suppose having a set day or set topic for blogging would keep me disciplined, and maybe I should try it. Any suggestions? “Thai on Tuesday” … “English Center Sunday” … “Good grief it’s Friday and I haven’t blogged for a month” … ?
Another thing I’ve realized is that I have trouble thinking of what to blog about. My life here feels normal and I can’t think of amazingly wonderful and surprising things to write about. Then, I forget that for people who don’t know about Thailand or what I am doing here, it’s all amazingly wonderful and surprising! Ok maybe not. But there are things that I think are normal that Americans would not necessarily think are normal. For example, pig heads for sale in the market. Pick-up trucks with speakers blaring announcements as they drive down the street. Fruit that looks like it’s from another planet. Weather so hot that 75 degrees fahrenheit feels like a cool morning.
I guess it comes down to self-discipline, something that I am alternately good and bad at having. When it comes to triathlon training, I am disciplined to stick to my workouts, and 99% of the time I will do the workout that’s on my plan, even if I don’t really really want to do it. When it comes to eating desserts………. well, let’s not go there. When it comes to blogging… you can see where I fall on that one. But, I’ll try to get better. What do you want to hear about? What do you want to see?
